Account Automatically Re-Opened After Discharge???

I filed for bankruptcy June 2018 & one of the accounts included was for a credit union & the documentation was submitted accordingly. Fast forward to the beginning of 2021 & the account in question was updated to "charge-off" instead of bankruptcy discharge, shows an open balance again, & back dated negative reporting all during 2020-current.

The credit union was contacted & they stated that their records show the account as closed with a zero balance & the error in reporting is with the credit bureau, Experian. I of course called Experian/filed a dispute but they stated that they only report what comes over from creditors.

This random update to an account included in the discharge & its negative reporting dropped my score 101 points, from 779 to 669 this month.

Is this illegal/legal?

Would removing the negative reporting (2020-2021) give back the 101 points?

What are the steps I need to take?

Who is at fault, the credit union or the bureau?

Should I hire a lawyer?

Re: Account Automatically Re-Opened After Discharge???

Any negative info before the file date stays. Although no balance and IIB must be placed on the account. It is illegal and against the BK laws to have anything else listed. You can contact your lawyer and they can send a letter to correct the account or a judge will award you $1000 plus cost for violatig BK laws. Good Luck!
