American Express Card Offer

Hi everyone, I just got mail from Amex offering the hilton hotels card with a sign up bonus. I had another hilton card with amex but burned in the C7 which has not even been discharged yet. Did Amex make a mistake or did they change their rules? I thought for sure I would not be able to get any amex cards for 5-7 years.

Re: American Express Card Offer

It's a 3rd party marketing company. If you try to apply before 5 yr 1mos you'll be auto-denied. Since you included them in BK, who knows how long before they let you back in, if ever.

Interesting! Is that the same I imagine if your significant other tries to authorize you?

The goal 5 years from now is to be in the 800s by using credit responsibly. If no Amex then, oh well!

You will NOT be in the 800's in 5 years. Sorry..with the right rebuild, you might be looking at 730-760 max FICO08 in 5 years. You wont see 800+ till your BK if off your credit reports completely, and yes.....that goes for being added as an AU on someone else's Amex cc. It wont even let them add you since they have to give SSN, and yours will be flagged in their system.

If you pay them back IN FULL,  (Amex doesnt negotiate, its all or nothing), then in 5 yrs, plus 1 mo, you'll be eligible to be considered again for an account.

Re: American Express Card Offer

Gotcha! Guess I need to set a realistic goal to strive towards. As for paying in full to amex, if I could do that what would be the point of BK? Their expectations are kinda wack

Yes indeed...A very realistic goal would be what I already mentioned..730-760, that is actually doable.  And yes, thats why I mentioned that we dont recommend ever paying back a creditor from your BK.  Thats the reason you filed to begin with. The expectation from any lender is to be paid back, and isnt whack. Im a poet and didnt even know it! hahahha...ok, in all seriousness again, just concentrate on your  rebuild,  since you just got your DC, so lets see how that goes Smiley Happy

Why are their expectations wack? If you loaned a friend $10k and they didn't pay you back, and a judge told you they didn't have to pay you back, would you loan them $10k again?

As for the AU, you can become one depending on the severity. It won't help you get back in with them, though some people think so.
