Hello,
Just thought I'd share an interesting thing I received in the mail today.
I got a mailer with an offer code for the Hilton Honors Amex Surpass Card. Yes, I know it's not a pre-approval for the card, but I've never gotten anything from Amex before my bk7. I just recently had my 341 about 3 weeks ago and my objection to discharge day is on 8/6/24. Kind of cool that Amex even sent this to me. I'm not going to apply since I know I won't get approved, but hopefully a pre-approval offer will come next.

pretty sure you need to be ~5 years out from BK to be approved w/Amex, it's a certain number of months, I don't remember specifically

Yeah, I heard it was a while after discharge, not anytime soon, But it's still a surprise to get this in the mail though.
For Amex, it's 61 months from your file date, and as long as they weren't included in the bankruptcy.

Just to add this is not a guarantee of approval, it's just the earliest that people with BKs have reported getting approvals.
Also AMEX likely selected you for pre-approval marketing mailers weeks or months before you received anything so it's likely your BK wasn't on their radar at that time.
Yeah, it's just wierd that before my filing, my score was easily about 120 poits lower (in the mid 500s) than it is now and they still decided to send me this offer. Either way, I know cant get approved and I'm not even worried about it. Shredded it already. It was just a surprise to get.

It would be nice of them to say this instead of just mailing you a denial letter that says "BANKRUPTCY".

If your bankruptcy is not discharged yet, you would have to file a motion in court to ask for a loan (and there'd better be a good reason since you're in the middle of a bankruptcy court telling a judge that you can't pay your bills), and they wouldn't grant it (most likely), and then AmEx would notice the pending bankruptcy and actually pull your credit file.
