Awaiting response. Thanks for the message recommendation. Stewing in the denial for 10 days awaiting the letter didn't sound very productive.

Good job.  One way or another, you will not be wondering.  Sometimes these things are problems with confirming ID and other things not directly related to your credit.

I would send them a secure message and ask the reason.  I have never heard of anyone being declined for the Navy secured CC unless they burned Navy in the past and still owe them money.   I don't think they pull credit for this card, so it wouldn't be a locked report.   Don't keep us in suspense, message them for the reason and ask what you can do to get it approved.

i was able to get my NFCU Secured card while my 13 was still active - odd they denied the OP

Just received this back from NFCU. I double checked and they are correct. TransUnion hasn't updated their records to include the bankruptcy as discharged. EX and EQ have both updated. I guess the court's discharge order that I included in the message wasn't enough evidence 🙄.
Now I'm wondering if should just hold off a few months. As much as I'd like the become more established with NFCU, I don't want to keep getting additional HPs for a single secured card. I'm assuming they'll need to HP again once the discharge is updated even though they typically don't pull more than once in the same month. Correct?

Currently, I'm at:

- $1000 Ally Everyday Cash

- $1500 Cred.ai

- $2000 Cap1 SavorOne

Still need to get an installment loan.

What are your thoughts on continuing to actively pursue the NFCU secured card or should I wait a bit?

Their underwriting must have changed in the last 14 months, I was able to open my secured card WITH an active 13, the card followed all the DP's with the CLI and automatically unsecuring and converting to CashRewards 4 months before my case concluded.....given what they sent you I'd wait for TU to update, if the other 2 have already updated TU can't be far behind (you can pull a new TU CR from their website daily to check, if you wanted you could also dispute the BK which would force them to update it after they review the information)

Re: And we are off....

TransUnion updated its report today, so I sent another message to NFCU asking if it was necessary to submit an additional application or if they'd be able to see the update without another hard pull.
Awaiting response.

This will probably be my final attempt this round. If they deny again, i feel it's probably best to hold off 3+ months and let my new cards age a bit. I still need to apply for their SSL, but based on information here... it shouldn't require a hard pull. Shouldn't being the hopeful word. 😂

They will probably require a hard pull again unfortunatly for the card Smiley Sad  But fingers crossed for you that they don't.

SSL does not require a hard pull with NFCU.  I have had two, and the last one I did was opened about a month ago.  However, they still do an internal check, so make sure you are clean there -- which it sounds like you are.  I would wait until after getting the card so they can update their internal records with the latest TU pull just incase they noted the active BK in your file from the first attempt.

Re: And we are off....

Thanks for the heads up on the SSL.

NFCU did respond back stating they need a new hard pull showing the BK has been updated to discharge status, and recommended a minimum 30 to 45 days just like the first response.

I'm a little frustrated with myself that I rushed the application before verifying that TransUnion was updated. But if that's the worst credit mistake I make going forward, we are golden.

For now, I'm going to hibernate for a few months. Then once a couple months has passed, I'll wake the NFCU bear again for the card and SSL.

Seriously, big thanks to everyone here. I'll be around, and do my best to pay it forward offering what I can to anyone that needs it,  even if all that's needed is a high five 🖐️.
