I am about to file BK. I want to get an checking/savings account with them. Is it best to just wait til after the BK? Do they do a HP for the checkings/savings like they do for credit, and what score are they looking for? Also, If i dont know my dads last four of his social (I dont talk to him) how would I proceed in getting in?
Thanks!!
Well attorney already told me to get a checkings because the other two Banks were going to be burned, So i have already opened a BOA bc he told me to, . But i am more interested in getting in with a CU.
JMS2687,
Unless something has changed, Navy Federal does a HP to join and for every product you apply for. You can open a new bank account, which my lawyer reccommended when I filed. Just don't open any new lines of credit because that will creat probems with your bankrupcty.
They are a fantastic CU. They will definitely work with you as you rebuild post BK.

I opened NFCU checking and savings about 2 months after filing for chapter 13 last year. They did NOT hard pull my credit, but they did pull EWS. I've seen other threads on FICO Forums where it seems they no longer hard pull credit (they soft pulled TU for me).
As stated previously, it is not a hard pull to apply for membership or checking. There is a soft pull and an inquiry with Early Warning System (EWS). Navy Federal does not use ChexSystems.
As long as you don't borrow from Navy Federal, it really shouldn't make a difference if you open a checking before filing or post-filing. I'd probably do it before filing.
I called and applied over the the phone Monday, and yesterday I paid the Attorney in Full. He says I will sign papers later this week, and he will E-file the paper work! So hopefully will hear back from NFCU by the end of the week aswell.
