Hello All,
I am about $25k in debt and I took a $10,000 unsecured debt consolidation loan from One Main Financial about a month ago. I paid $1,000 of my loan back to One Main within the week i received the funds. I am currently on time with all of my payments including this new loan. My plan was to use the loan to pay down my credit card utilization in the hopes that it would increase my credit score enough to receive a low interest loan/credit card offer that would consolidate my debt for 0% interest for atleast 12 months and allow me to get above water. My credit score has updated since ive used the loan to pay down my credit card debt but not enough to get the consolidation offers i was hoping for. My credit scores went from 580-600's's to between 650-675 between the three credit bureaus. I want to get out of this cycle of using my extra money to pay my credit cards and now personal loan payments just to use my credit cards again to get through until my next payday. I dont have any personal assets aside for my car financed with capital one auto. I am thinking at this point the only way to get out of this cycle is to declare bankruptcy. This would be my first time filing and i have spoken with a lawyer. He said that i should wait at least 90 days after taking the loan to file so i would wait until december, But i wonder if the personal loan that i have with one main financial can prevent me from getting a bankruptcy discharge if they show up to my MOC? Does anyone have experience with one main in bankruptcy? Could you share your experiences? And any other advice that you can offer would be appreciated as well.
Thanks in advance
My debt consists of:
Cards/CarNote | Debt | Limit |
CAP 1 AUTO | 20,000 | |
CareCredit | $3,425.97 | 6000 |
Cap1 | $4,544.00 | 4500 |
Cap2 | $4,018.17 | 4000 |
Walmart | $378.23 | 800 |
Cred1 | $1,051.00 | 1250 |
Cred2 | $1,147.46 | 1200 |
One Main Financial | $9,000 | 10,000 |
Avant Card | $806.00 | 3000 |
I have 7 other cards with a $0 balance Credit1, Applecard, Synchrony Mor, VS, CP, Macys. Applecard and one of the credit 1 cards was canceled after paying them off with the loan.
99% of the time creditors dont show up to the MOC. Here in Florida its all done by video conference.
I included one main in my chapter 7 bankruptcy for roughly the same amount you did. I'd wait until December like your lawyer said but they never showed up to my meeting. They did send me countless letters to settle before filing but I was behind unfortunately. Not one creditor showed to my meeting actually 😊
Thank you so much. I hope it's that way in California also
This is so good to know. Thank You! Did they give you any issue with updating your balance to $0? I see that some had that issue in other forums. Ive only seen it with secured loans though.
@Jajamom23 @Honestly no! They updated IIB and fixed my balance to $0 pretty quickly. I'd say within the first couple weeks it was changed.. the longest one was the Self secured card and loan that I had that took the absolute longest to update.
Youre amazing. This helps to calm my nerves so much. Thank you
@Jajamom23 Absolutely! I will say filing was one of the best decisions for me. I'm grateful that I did it and only wish I'd done it sooner. If you feel like you're constantly just trying to catch up on payments but then need to use those cards again and it's a never ending cycle, it may relieve that cycle and pressure for you. I know healthy credit habits at this point but I'd just gotten myself into a loop that I couldn't get out of.
