Hi everyone, I'm not new to this site but now I want to get more serous about contributing and getting feedback from eevryone here. Seems like everyone here are very helpful and thnk you in advance. I recenty files for Chapter 7 on 12/2020 and received my discharge on 4/1/2021. Now it's time to rebuild. I tried to pre-qualify for Capital One and to my surprise I was pre-qualify for the Platinum, QS and secured. I chosed the Planinum and pulled the trigger. Well while waiting for a response patiently for 60 seconds and seeing the dots processing, it did not come back instant approval but an email which is not a good sign. Well my heart dropped and felt that hard inquiry pull. I called next day to customer service and was rerouted to fraud department. Fraud department said they need to call the phone number that is listed on my credit file. So I hung up and never received that call for verification. About 10 minutes later received an email of declined. Then received an email and downloaded the letter for their reason why. The reason was becasue they could not verify me. I went to my credit bureau and found Equifax had a fraud alert placed on my file with my old phone number from years ago. So I'm assuming they called that number and no one answered. I called Equifax and told them I need to take the fraud alert of my file which I never placed in the first place. Now they want me to sned in my DL and SS card to verify. Well now I have a hard inquiry for nothing. I did email the EO at Capital One and waitng for a response back. Anyone here experience similar situation or if anyone have any idea how I can fix this, I would greaty appreicate any help. Thank you.
First things first after bankruptcy. You need to pull all of your credit reports, and dispute any inaccuracies. Look over every item and information on there, and you need to have it corrected. You can do this on the respective credit agency website, or by mailing a letter to each of the three. This process will take approximately 30 days for the new information to be corrected. After this, I recommend you reapply for the card you would like. You want them to pull another credit report to see the changes that were made, but only after everything is cleared up. Keep in mind, after bankruptcy you will most likely need to call or go through addtional verification to ensure it is really you making the request. Hope this helps and good luck!

Are you sure you have a hard inquiry on your CR and it was just wasn't an alert saying a lender tried to access your report?
I had a similar experience with another lender regarding my Equifax report. I contacted EQ and answered the multiple choice questions only to be told that I answered incorrectly (but I didn't) and I would need to upload my DL and SS card. I declined b/c credit bureaus hasn't been reliable when it comes to protecting consumers data. Also, Equifax is based in Atlanta, and Atlanta has a huge problem with fraud. Anyway, several months has passed and I noticed an old email from Equifax's Lock & Alert site. I was able to reset the password and sign in, and realized that my EQ report was locked for years. I unlocked my report -- And it's been smooth sailing ever since.
Thank you for your response and insight on this. Yes that's exactly what I did after the declined. I spent days correctly all the discrepencies on my report. Equifax couldnt verify me since my old phone number was on the fraud alert. I had to send in my DL and SS card. Once they verified, the fraud alert was removed. All good now. I tried calling customer service at Capital One and explain the situation but no results there. I emailed the Executive Office and no response either.
Yes it was hard inquiry amd seen it on all 3 bureaus. I had to send in my DL and SS card to prove that it was me and then got the alaert removed thank god. I pulled the trigger again for Cap One Platinum and was approved for $300! Not liking another hard pull but at least it's approved.
