I’m not really worried about how long it follows me as I’m only in my 20s. So I’m young enough that I can easily recoup from this.
I’m also not really looking to keep making these monthly payments because it leaves me with negative money every month. I have a relative willing to help with the lawyer fees, which I was told would only be about $1,800 total for everything.
I’ve looked into some of those non-profit debt consolidation and relief programs and they have terrible terrible reviews. My buddy did it, and his plan was five years to have everything paid off. In that time, with bankruptcy, my credit would already be mostly rebuilt and I would be halfway done with it.
Careful with this. Trustee might not like it.

I would get a notorized loan agreement and backdate it for your grandparents. Do not lie about anything! It does have a loan on it. Make sure to include to VIN number and SECURED loan agreement title. That may be enough. Do you have proof of paying each month? That will also help.
I don't think a Notary will notarize a back dated document, and when I filed, I owed my Mother money, and was told that debts to close family members are not allowed to be included. They dis-allow it because transferring property to family members is often used to hide assets. I don't understand what you mean by backdating it...a notary is swearing that he witnessed the signatures of the two parties on the date indicated.

Trustee might not like what??? A family member paying for the lawyer? Why? When my Niece filed...I paid every dime the lawyer was due, as well as getting her secured debt on her mortgage back current. Why would the Trustee have problems with a family member helping pay the lawyer? As far as I know the Trustee in my Nieces case never even asked how she hired the lawyer, but he may have because I was not there in the 341 hearing, but was there when the meeting with the lawyer happened, and he knew I was paying him and catching her up on the house.
