PenFed's website is still complete garbage... like it is run on some 20 year old web software although at last check they were in process of updating it.

Once I pay off the BT's I'm most likely done with PenFed.  I'm not taking a HP for a CLI... and my Gold card has been $2500 for over a year now with no increase.  Not a huge deal really.  It's pretty obvious to me that growth will come a lot easier with NFCU.

That being said... PenFed might not be bad... but they are definitely not NFCU.  Smiley LOL

I debated joining NFCU last year when I was car shopping, however, PenFed (where I am currently a member and have some money stashed) consistently advertised significantly better rates for new car loans.  It seems at various times, NFCU and PenFed leapfrog each other regarding savings rates, loan rates and other offerings; that said, from a perspective focused purely on credit cards, NFCU seems to be the clear winner.

With the above said, while I certainly qualify to join NFCU, I have yet to take the plunge, and may never.  Why?  I already have many times the credit card buying power I need/want/desire, and while I may apply for a few airline related credit cards in the future due to proposed business travel, the extra credit limit will just add to an already bloated total limit, so why engage yet another financial institution?

Makes sense.

I had all my accounts with WF prior to joining PenFed and then NFCU... and have since moved the checking/savings to NFCU and the CC growth has been significant while I've gotten nowhere with PenFed.  More conservative lender... I get it.  I've gotten nowhere with WF either for the same reasons.

Without question NFCU is better IMO... but if you don't need it... you don't need it.  For me it's a bit different... my end goal by my 50th in Sept 2024 is to be free and clear of all the rebuilding cards and just have a few good ones... AMEX... NFCU... Apple.. and perhaps WF while dumping everything else.  I'm well on my way.

My Chapter 13 discharged nearly three and a half years ago and I still have my first three "rebuilder" cards, my first card from TDBank started as a $5,000 secured card and now has an unsecured limit of $11,500, my CapOne Quicksilver started at $3,000 and is now $6,300, and my PenFed Platinum Rewards card started, and remains at $6,000.  Interestingly enough, while my TDCash card continues to get heavy usage, I have more or less relegated the Quicksilver and PenFed Platinum cards to the proverbial sock drawer.  Smiley Happy

I plan on working until the end of the decade; by then I'll be well into my 70s, and hopefully by then I'll have my nest egg rebuilt to the point it will carry both my wife and I until we're 100 (we both have centurions on both sides of our respective families); so by then I have no idea where I'll be from a credit card perspective, but as I mentioned above, other than a Delta and United credit card, I have no need for any more.

Re: Chase Credit Cards and Bankruptcy

Well I have both NFCU and PenFed. I started the NFCU in 2016 and joined PenFed in 2022.  But PenFed gave me my highest limit of $7k. While NFCU provided me $4,500 on the More Rewards AMEX.  My plan is to just "garden" my credit right now so I can get an AMEX Gold and Chase Sapphire Preferred. I know it will take a moment due to my BK but those are the cards I see in my future.

Re: Chase Credit Cards and Bankruptcy

Quick question.... how does chase know if you didn't file BK on them and the BK aren't showing up anymore after the 7 year mark? *if the blacklisted for 10 years is true.*

Bankruptcies are a matter of public record and will be on file basically for the rest of one's life.  Yeah, they won't show up on one's credit reports after either 7 or 10 years (depending on which Chapter one files), but places like LexisNexis will report them forever.  Does Chase look at LexisNexis when making underwriting decisions?  Don't know, but it is certainly possible.

Re: Chase Credit Cards and Bankruptcy

Have you tried applying for an Amex? I am less than three months out of a 13 and was approved for a Hilton Honors Aspire Amex. At two months out of BK, walked into a branch for a 900 dollar checking and savings offer and walked out with a CFU with another 200 dollar on top of the 900.

So have you applied? Have you walked into a branch for Chase and applied?
