Filed for BK7, Progressive Leasing?

Hello all!

I've recently filed for a BK7 and my 341 meeting is in a couple of weeks. Recently my laptop went bad and I need a new laptop to continue with my online courses. Unfortunately one of those courses requires an application which has application requirements that put me between the $800 - $1000 range of laptop. Recently, a local tech store picked up Progressive Leasing and with my current income I could do the 3 month leasing plan to pay a laptop off. However I was wondering if it would be a bad idea to try to get the laptop under the Progressive Leasing plan before the meeting/discharge. I don't know if PL would deny me due to the Bankruptcy on file but I did want to try and I just wanted to ask ahead before I make a mistake.

Welcome @Anonymous

This is something you'll need to address with your lawyer. The trustee may understand the cicumstances once your lawyer tells them in your MOC that is needed for education purposes. If you hide it from your lawyer and get the laptop being a new loan before the MOC it could go south and your case could be dismissed if the trustee gets wind of it. Talk to your lawyer is the best advice for now.

Personally I would check Craigslist or check retail stores, ie Best Buy, for refurbished models to avoid picking up a monthly bill for a laptop.  Just a thought.

I've recently filed for a BK7. . .  I need a new laptop (and I do not have the ability to pay cash) . . .  . You are in a Chapter 7.  If someone is willing to "lend" you money after the day you filed, that is between you and the lender.    The bankruptcy court has no interest in what you do as it relates to debt you incur after the filing date.
