Made Mistakes.

So I found MyFICO and instead of actually reading for a period of time I just read a couple post and thought I was doing the right thing. Now been reading for the last 2 months and I think I started completely on the wrong foot.

My bankruptcy was discharged back in July 2018 and I didn’t start looking at rebuilding till October 2018.

October 26, 2018 First thing I did was open a USAA Secured credit card for $250. Same day opened a USAA secured AMEX for my wife and I became a AU for $250. Then I found the so call SCT and I think this is where I messed up. October 27, 2018 I got the JCREW $250 and VS $250 cards. October 30, 2018 I opened a Penfed account and I got approved for their overdraft LOC $500 but denied for their CC of course. Then November 4, 2018 I got approved for the Discover secured card $200.

I have a Navient student loan as my installment loan.

My question is should I close my store cards or leave them open. I do shop at Jcrew and I can careless for VS as my wife can open her own. Any recommendations on what I can do to make sure I am on the right track.

Re: Made Mistakes.

Keep them, for now. They're more valuable to you open than closed at this state in your rebuild.

Revisit them in a year or so, when your other existing limits have grown or you've aquired a better selection of keeper cards.

Re: Made Mistakes.

I agree with keeping them open for now. Go into the garden for the next 6-12 months, taking care of your accounts and letting them grow. No new HPs for the next 12 months, if possible.
