Hi everyone!
I've been quietly reading the forums posted on here prior to and during my bankruptcy process. Reading some of the topics on here really helped me deal with the fact that my husband and I were having to file for bankruptcy. Now that we're post-discharge, I figured it's high time to introduce myself.
Long story short, we filed for bankruptcy due to job loss. My husband and I had both lost our jobs in November 2012 and while I was able to find something quick, he wasn't. Tried my best to keep our bills paid, but after a while, paying the mortgage or feeding the fam becomes an issue. Needless to say, we fed our family. After battling with the "do we or don't we" regarding bankruptcy, we filed in late May 2013. We discharged EVERYTHING - the mortgage, the cars, the loans and credit cards. We felt horrible, ashamed, but we had to do it.
Fast forward to today, the husband is employed, I still have my job, and we're in a better place financially. I was able to get approved for a car loan after the 314, and while I'm eating the interest rate, I'm hopeful that I'll be able to refinance come the one year mark. Why? Because we were also just approved (last week, actually) through our credit union for a $25K auto loan at 5.99%. I actually got the tip about applying to the credit union from one of the threads here!
I know that we have a long way to go, but I look forward to reading more of the threads on this forum (and participating!) and learning from each and every one of you. ![]()
