Hi all,
Unfortunately I burned NFCU for an overdrafted checking account and a credit card during a CH7 BK. Nominal amounts that I wouldn't be adverse to repaying.
Has anyone re-opened a checking account with them?
I did recently and have a BK from January 2018 but did not burn them in the filing. Had no issues re-opening the account from when I served. They still list my old rank LOL.
If you still have a balance and burned them not sure what they will do. Others may have better DP than me.
My situation was somewhat similar to yours. About 6 or 7 years ago I switched banks from navy federal to a different credit union due to moving to a different state with no nfcu branches. I forgot to update a few recurring bills which caused overdrafts and lots of fees that I couldn't pay back. They closed the account and never sent it to collections but my share savings remained open. I filed for chapter 7 this past January and after I was discharged i wanted to restart a relationship with them to help rebuild my credit.I applied to open a checking account and they approved it. I'm not sure if it was because so many years went by or what? But I have read that if they were burned in bankruptcy they will allow you to open new accounts if you "voluntarily" pay them back all the money you burned them for. So far I have a checking, savings, a secured card that graduated after about 6 full statements (so about 7 months) and a secured pledge loan. Hope this helps, I have seen that everyone's experiences with Navy varies.
Awesome, so there is hope! I'll try to get in touch with them after my discharge.
