I tried to search but was unable to find much recent information. Does anyone have experience with applying for an unsecured credit card from VYSTAR CU post chapter 7 discharge? I opened a secured card with them about 6 months ago and at time of applying, a branch employee told me they wouldn't bother with considering me for 4+ years after bankruptcy. I wanted a 3rd card so I proceeded with the secured visa as there was no HP to obtain. I received an email from my local branch today saying that I've had my card 7 months and could apply for an upgrade to an unsecured card. It would be an application and HP but this employee claims the only hard rule is for mortgages. She did mention that the computer would determine if approved, which makes me less confident. I had intentions of closing this card since I have a couple unsecured now but I have been a member for 3 years now with a spare checking that gets a small DD and would like any feedback before deciding...Data points, which report they pull, denials, approval etc that pertain to bankruptcy dirtied files. Thanks!
Mermaid330,
From what I've read about Vystar FCU is they are an extremely conservative CU is bankruptcy friendly. Since you already have the unsecured card with Penfed, I would apply for an unsecured card. If it's not approved, I'd do a recon and say I was approved for a 10k CL with Penfed, I've proven my ability to get approved for credit elsewhere, Vystar should be able to approve me for a card. I would also bring up your current payment history.
I honestly have not heard a bad thing about this CU. Good luck if you try it.

Are you able to upgrade what you have now with a CLI?
My former neighbor loved that CU. He had 2 CCs (40K limits) and his mortgage with them.
