1. No 4 months is not too soon. It's fine.
2. I think you're right to hold out for the best SUB offer. Amex is famous for switching them around constantly. Sometimes it says "this offer may not be available after you leave this screen". So I would keep poking around until the $500 pops up. Maybe try "incognito" mode and see what that turns up. Maybe one of the Amex experts can tell you how to trigger the better SUB offer. Maybe DoctorOfCredit.com has something on BBC SUB's.
BTW it's a great card, up to the first 50k in annual spend.
@John00 I have 3 Amex cards and actually opened the 2 personal cards within the same month and that was in 2021. This year (2022), I applied and was approved for the Amex Business Platinum which the relationship started out a bit shakey but has been fine since I learned how the charge card actually works!!!
