Amex Biz Product Change

Hey All,

I am thinking of changing our Amex Business Card line up and have a few questions.

Right now we have two separate companies both of which have Platinum Cards.  With the increase in price, I do not think this makes sense.   We will not use WeWork, and the Dell credit is OK, but not exciting.

For one company switching to the personal Platinum (maybe Schwab), I think makes the most sense regarding cost.  Is it possible to product change from Business Platinum to Personal?  This company runs about $400K through per year and does maybe ten transactions over $5K in the $30-40K range; a lot of travel; currently 1 Platinum, 1 Platinum AU, and a bunch of AU Gold employee cards.

For the other company, switching to Business Blue Plus might make more sense than downgrading to the new gold.  I am not sure about this as Gold fits this company's spending practices so the annual fee may be worth it.  Can you PC a business Charge to Revolver?  I think you cannot on the personal side.  This company runs about $80K through but less air travel but a lot of driving and dining; 1 Platinum, 2 AU employee gold.

I am not as concerned with SUBs because we have millions of points at the moment and I would rather not open new accounts.

The goal is to get three Platinum cards for the perks and pay less on annual fees.

Thanks

Re: Amex Biz Product Change

Can only product change Amex cards within product family and cannot product change from business to personal or personal to business.
I avoided the word revolver because Amex is morphing the charge cards into being revolver-like, if not full on revolvers.
Green, Gold, and Platinum can be pc'd to one another but not to other cards.

Edit: I agree that up to 3 authorized users for $175 on personal Platinum is a very good deal. The Business cards do not help you get there other than your household having a positive record with Amex.

Re: Amex Biz Product Change

Thanks Guys,

After I posted it hit me that having these cards attached to businesses (one is a Corp, the other is an LLC) trumps the savings for having it attached to a personal account.  I think we will put the two additional au Platinum cards on the one account and switch to Gold for the other.

I will update as to how this turns out.  We have never asked for any retention from Amex (about 40 years between the two accounts) so hopefully they offer something.

Re: Amex Biz Product Change

I know you all have been waiting with bated breath for this post to pop back up!  I did the math and the results ended up being different than I anticipated.  Given math is not a strong suit please let me know if there are any glaring inaccuracies.  You know you are having an awesome Saturday night when you sit around analyzing credit card annual fees!  Smiley Tongue

It looks like the current setup makes sense assuming all credits are used (obviously this is a big assumption).

Re: Amex Biz Product Change

What do the $650 fees map to?
If those are business platinum fees, shouldn't they be either the old $450 or the new $595?

Re: Amex Biz Product Change

You are totally right, not sure why I thought it was $650.  Even better!  It seems ridiculous to spend so much on fees...
