Amex Business Prime CLI $14K → $20K

IMG_1520.PNG

Here are some data points for the American Express Business Prime Card:

  • 01/2025 — $7,000 SL
    (FICO 8: 685 / 700 / 673)
  • 01/2026 — CLI to $14,000
    (FICO 8: 691 / 709 / 689)
  • 05/2026 — CLI to $20,000
    (FICO 8: 713 / 718 / 708)

So overall:
$7K → $14K → $20K

I didn’t do a 3x request. Why? Honestly, I misunderstood how the CLI worked at first. When I requested $14K, I thought it meant “plus $14K,” not total limit.

As for this latest request, I debated asking for $25K, but decided to go conservative and request $20K instead. Since the Amazon Business Prime portfolio is moving to U.S. Bank in August, I figured if they denied me, there might not be another opportunity for a CLI before the migration.

So if anyone is thinking about requesting a CLI, now may be the time before the transfer happens.

Interesting facts / observations:

  • My highest personal credit limit is only $10K
  • TransUnion inquiries: 1/6, 4/12, 8/24

What I find most interesting is that Amex denied me for a CLI on my Blue Cash Everyday:

Amex Blue Cash Everyday:

  • 08/2025 — $1,000 SL
  • 04/2026 — CLI to $3,000 denied

The stated reason was my FICO score of 699 at the time.

So that makes me wonder:

  • Is Amex more generous with cobranded accounts? Business accounts? Or both?
  • Or maybe they just don’t care as much because the Business Prime portfolio is moving to US Bank soon?

Not sure.

For me personally, once Business Prime moves to US Bank, I’ll only have one remaining Amex Card (Blue Cash Everyday)  sitting at a $1,000 limit, which leaves a lot of room for growth.

I’ve also noticed that whenever I receive a CLI on the business card, it seems to restart the clock for the personal card.
So now I can just focus on growing the BCE over time since it’s currently my lowest-limit card. Although maybe I'll just open another Amex  like BCP in the future and close BCE and then downgrade to BCE, if that's faster path to CL growth.
