CitiBusiness Platinum Select (American Airlines)

Good morning. This is my very first post. I was hoping someone had some insight regarding the above-mentioned credit card. I have had the card since 2015. My credit limit started at $1,200.00 and had not been increased ever. I pay this card at least twice weekly because the limit is so low. I have requested credit limit increases on sever occassions and have never been approved. Does anyone know what criteria they take into account with credit limit increases? I have thought about giving up and going with a different card, but I love to travel and benefit from the miles.

If you're traveling for pleasure, I think it makes more sense to get a personal travel card. You'll probably have a starting limit 10x higher than this one.

But if you're using this card for business, and then using the points for personal travel, I think you should apply for some other business travel card and ditch this one.

If you like to stick with American Airlines, and don't want to use a general travel card, here's an article on AA cards:

Sadly if you want to stick with the added miles bonus in the AA/credit card eco system....the boards here have SEVERAL posts about how difficult it is to get the AA Aviator Business Card from Barclays...so Citibank is the either path.

Agree with @SouthJamaica on your situation.  Not sure what criteria they use and if the personal side is an option, barring any credit issues, the personal approvals are likely higher

Let me clarify, I am referring to the credit limit increase. I already have the card, I just cannot get them to increase the limit. I went back and pulled my statement from last year and I spent about $60,000. I paid $0.00 in interest, maybe that's the issue?

Usually...the activity and payment activity versus interest spent (earned by the bank) is not a precursor to a CLI....at least not in my experience or what I'm aware of.

Yes we realize it's the credit limit that's the problem. I'm just saying that Citi is a tough nut to crack so if they don't like your profile for CLI's you might have to look elsewhere if you want a bigger limit. Have they been giving you reasons for denial? If so, what reason are they articulating?

No, the lack of paying interest is not the issue. They make plenty of money with the interchange fees.

The only thing I can think of is that they don't like what's on your personal credit file whether its the 3 bureaus or secondary bureaus like Lexisnexis and etc. There's no reason why they wouldn't give you an increase with the amount of spend and heavy usage you have on the card.
