I have been eying the Chase Sapphire Reserve card and decided to jump in with an application because I will be doing a bit of traveling this summer. To get the most out of rewards categories, I planned to use the CSR for travel/dining, and also apply for a Chase Freedom to use on quarterly categories, and a Chase Freedom Unlimited for everything else.
I applied back-to-back for the CSR (instant approval, $34k SL) and the CF (instant approval, $15k SL). I stupidly waited a day to apply for the CFU and was instantly denied. I got the denial letter yesterday, which gave too many Chase applications as the reason for denial.
I plan to call for reconsideration and would like any tips. Should I be upfront about my rewards strategy? Is it smart to offer shifting credit from one or both of the other Chase cards to the CFU?
$135k in income. Approximately 750 credit score. Other cards include Capital One Venture ($26k SL), Citi Double Cash ($13k SL) and Best Buy Card ($6k SL).
Thanks!
Given the number of 2% cash back cards available I would question applying for a 1.5% card like the CFU. Other that being able to say you have the "Chase trifecta" I can't really think of a reason to app for the CFU.

The points from both CF cards can be transferred to the CSR and get a 50% bonus on travel redeemed through the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal (so 2.25% for the CFU). The points can also be transferred to other rewards partners (Southwest, United) where they can be worth more than 2 cents each. Plus I like having all my points in one system so I can pool them towards bigger purchases.
Speaking of irrelevant...my response to you wouldn't be FS&R so I'll just say this much.

No where did the OP ask if they should get a 2% over the CFU. Why people need to chime in irrelevant information I'll never understand.
Anyway, I don't think the call will help. Getting approved for 3 cards in a day or two seems impossible from the same bank. I'd wait a couple months and then apply again. Don't think you'll have any problems that way.
I'm well aware of the intricacies of the UR program(s). Good luck calling for a reconsideration on your FU application; its difficult to get an override of Chase's 2/30 rule and you've already made 2 apps in 30 days.
