Hey All,
Question: I recieved a pre-selection offer in the mail from Citi for their Simplicity card yesterday which quoted a rate of 15.99%. Out of curiosity I went on their site just not to see if I prequalified for anything and the Premier was suggested with additional offers including the Simplicity card but the rates were in the 20% area. Any reason for the disparity? Not interested in any of these but I am interested in which is more accurate.
Also, I never seem to have cobranded cards recomended with any of the pre-qual sites (Citi, Amex, BOA). Any reason for this? If I were to get a Citi card it would be one of the AA's and I am a little gun shy without the prequlaification test.
Thank you all in advance, you guys are the best!

That happened to me recently with Chase not citi. Preqal said 20%, online said 23% but when I applied I got it for 21% for some weird reason. I would just assume they aren't solid apr's until you actually get approved. Could be wrong though with citi. That's just how chase did it.
That is too funny, just take the average!
Hi NKB,
I have received several mailers from Citi in the past. The quoted APR was lower than any online prequalification, but not by much (approximately .5 APR from what I recall.) The quoted range on the APR, I think, is very solid - provided there are no significant changes in income, utilization, baddies, etc. on your file when you apply. They do double-pull (EQ and EX for me) for new apps.
If they've solicited you for the Simplicity card, I'd say wait for more offers/cards to come by. They soft-pulled your credit recently and liked what they saw. They'll keep coming after you until you cave in
And the offers will get sweeter! I did get an AA SUB offer for 60K miles and snapped that one up when at the time I think the online offer was 30K? The APR on the mailer was spot on.
Just be patient (because all of us on the forum usually are!
) and you may get an AAdvantage mailer soon. Good luck!
If you got pre-qualifiers from CITI you should be good to go. I dont' believe you will ever see a AA prequalifcation on their pre-qualify tool. Just a note I have never shown a prequalify in my life on the CITI page. And I was instantly approved for AA and Thank You Premier.
Thanks guys,
I have six AA flights over the next two weeks so if they have a SUB kicker on the flight I may pull the trigger. If not I will probably apply before booking my July travel. This site is the best.
