My 7th goRewards statement just cut and I have decided to go for my second card this week (Flagship). For those of you that have 2 NFCU cards, I was wondering how long it was after obtaining your first card before you applied for your second. Am I too early?

Good question, i've been waiting for the right promo to come along right now the Cash Rewards has a $200 bonus....hmmmm tempting.
Just got my Go Rewards card today and planning to do same in six months so I am also interested in what the right time is.

Yes, I applied just after my 4th statement: $5K to $20K. You assisted me in that process CA. However, my case is a little unique from most people on this board. Although I have decent credit now with all 3 bureau's reporting in the 720-725 range... I still have a BK and multiple tax liens from 2007. The BK will obviously go away in a couple more years and isn't hurting me that bad anymore. However, the business tax liens are in the 6 digit range and I will never be able to resolve them.
Although I have absolutely perfect credit the past 6+ years, the tax liens are killing me. NFCU flat out turned me down for the CLOC (4th statement) because of public records (tax liens). Then, just last month they turned me down again for another CLI on my goRewards card (6th statement). Currently $20K, I asked for $25K and was rejected.
I did unfortunately go for the CLOC via an application regular mail. As you advised on another thread, that was a mistake. You encouraged my to try again on-line, but I haven't found the confidence yet. If the CLOC is manual review, I have a feeling they would reject me for the same reason anyways. I already have 4 inquiries from NFCU since gaining membership 8 months ago, so I am really struggling with the idea of having more. I started this thread because I thought maybe applying for my 2nd card would be easier. I wouldn't mind one more inquiry if it resulted in another NFCU card. However, I am not sure at this point.
Sorry this was so long.

thanks for the refresh, I do recall now.
I wouldn't be surprised if your 2nd app is declined but might be worth to take $1-$10k from your current card to open the 2nd... many have had luck with moving quite a bit from the first card and then instantly getting a cli back to what it was before you moved it. I would not move more than $15k of your current card to opent he 2nd.
Good morning, I waited almost eight months but, That's because at first I had no intention of applying until I logged on one day and BAM!!![]()

Yes, that would be my strategy if I decided to app for the 2nd card (Flagship). However, I am still a little tenative now with me recent CLI decline from $20K to $25K. You would think 7 statements of history that it would have been an easy approval. I had 2% total utilization and less than a $75 balance on the card at the time of the app. The only justifcation I can see in the denial is that maybe I app'd too soon after my prior $5K to $20K CLI approval. It was after my 4th or 5th statement.
For the record, I just reveived the denial letter from NFCU yesterday. The stated reasons for the denial are: 1) 092 Excessive credit obligations... 2) 096 Derogatory Public Records (tax liens from 2007-2008). **bleep**? I only have about $50K in total CL's between my 8 cards and I always keep my utilzation low. That's now 4 NFCU inquires since April (2 TU & 2 EQ) 1 membership, 1 goRewards approval and 2 denials (1 CLOC & 1 CLI).
My guess is I am being approved via auto computer processes on line because of my scores. Denied on any kind of human manual review because they see the 7 year old tax liens. I do need/want one more good credit card and was hoping for the Flagship. Unfortunately, I am worried if it was declined for whatever reason I wouldn't get through the manual review (as per your suggestion) of using some my goRewards $20K CL to open the 2nd card.

yes this is why I would apply for flagship... upon denial, ask to move $15k from your current card. once they complete it and you see both accounts set up online... request CLI on your original card back to $20k
