It was time to ask for my 3X increases (supposed to be soft pulls) for the 2 AMEX cards in my possession. Interestingly, I got the 7-10 day message on both. This has never happened to me before. Guess I am about to learn a new lesson in the game of finance.
I was denied an increase on both cards. Here is the reason given for both: "We cannot increase the credit limit of a Card within six months of increasing the credit limit on another American Express Card." It was 182 days ago when I received the increase on my first American Express card, so that reasoning doesn't wash.
The second card was offered to me in late March; as soon as I received and validated the card, I asked for an increase and was denied for the same reason. I thought it was actually because a CSR encouraged me to apply for an increase on the first card about 6 days early (that was also denied).
I am not sure whether to call and find out what is really going on and just let it go. I really don't need an increase, just wanted to play the 3X game, and it’s the principle. I really would like to know how they came up with that reasoning. What do y'all think.
RE: Julian, no you don't have to wait 60 days any more. That part of the 3x CLI thread is obsolete
RE: OP, you requested a CLI in march on card two. I'm guessing that they're using that as your last "increase" date, meaning that you shouldn't be able to apply again until September.
First, you can only get one 3X CLI on any card every 180 days after the very first one you get. If you tried in March and were declined you need to wait 90 days before you can try again. You can't get CLIs on two cards at the same time.

Irish is it a 90 day wait between all cards if denied for 3x CLI?
I'm curious about this too. I would have thought it would be 180 days.

Yes, that is my understanding. Regardless of which card you tried to get the CLI for, if denied then you must wait the 90 days until you are ok to try again. From Amex's view, when it comes to CLIs, all of their revolvers are considered one card no matter how many you have.

180 days only applies if approved on any card

If I understand correctly, you got a CLI around October 8, 2014, then a new card in March, asked for CLI and the denial said you didn't wait 6 months, today you tried with both cards and got the same message.
Can you confirm if the CLI date? From what I read you need to wait 180 days after CLI approval and 90 days after denial, and the clock is not reset if you ask before the right time. So maybe there is a problem with last CLI date.
