And forget recon with amex. It's my understanding from a close friend of mine that they don't do it. You get what you get, and don't throw a fit. Goodness. 2 months pass and you think they shorted you your 3x cli.
lol.
No need for dramatics.
I am going by the hundreds of pages on this site about 'desperate' people such as myself, getting a 3x CLI after their first 61 days.
There is nothing 'desperate' in my attempt to go after what 95% of this board goes after, with a shorter history than mine, much lower scores, etc.
I am just going to assume you read my post wrong as I have not seen you reply to any of my other threads.
Desperate, I am not. disappointed because I was working towards something and failed to achieve it, yes.
Nobody is throwing a fit and I don't feel like I was shorted.
+1 Total80sKid. Don't let a "rogue" response rent space in your head.
Let's please remember to always remain friendly, supportive and respectful. Given the data points with all of the Amex threads here, the 61 day CLIs are so common they really can be almost expected in many cases. I know I've had my share or surprises with lenders when I compare myself to others. Use the card as you have been, keep the payments on time and try again in 91 days. 2 years from now the disappointment will be a long forgotten memory when you're sitting on a $20k credit line. ![]()
+1 above
This experience should motivate you to keep doing what you're doing and + better. When the time comes again, AMEX will see how you've been taking care of your card/s ![]()
First, thank you for the pleasant reply. I appreciate that as i was attempting to help.
There are many issues here, so let me clarify. You had an approval for 1K. My typical revolver approval at amex is 30K. I don't say this to brag, but rather to point out what the issue is here. You had a borderline approval at 1K. So they are basically taking a flyer on you. Nonetheless, you should be pleased and proud as amex can be fiddly at times.
The desperate refers not to how you sound to me as frankly i don't take this too seriously. I was referring to how you appear to your creditor AMEX. And I would be cautious taking anything said on these boards at face value, as i believe there are issues here. There are inherent biases here, of course; nonetheless, over a large enough set of replies, you can probably get a good sense of things. Check "amex recon". I just did and i didn't see much goodness there. And as I mentioned, i know someone fairly high there who tells me the computers do the work and that usually isn't overridden. So calling and pleading your case in my mind sounds desperate, since it's likely to fail anyway.
Amex has been a wonderful asset to me throughout my life, and i suggest taking a longer term view of your situation. Saying that you are bummed because you didn't get a 2K
Increase "on time" tells me your focus is wrong. Credit is just credit, and is earned through your attention to your income. I know this is likely unpopular here, but please forgive me as i don't think I've ever been in the company of so many high wage earners who simultaneously have bankruptcies on their files. Caution is advised. Gaming AmEx, more than any creditor I can think of, will likely end badly. I am not saying that you are, but i am saying be patient and let a relationship develop. Treat then correctly, and they will stand behind you 100%. They are truly unique. This is why you see so many people who have burned them trying to get back with them. This whole post sounds preachy, and it is. I apologize for that, but truly i am trying to help you see things a bit differently.
So, since you were so pleasant to me, I'll leave you with this to contemplate. As a business, you can mess with earnings, and make them say nearly anything, but you cannot lie about cash flow. Translate that to an individual, and you'll understand where the 4506-t requests come from.
Well, this strikes me as rather general. I think with a borderline approval, you are likely better off to give it 91 days. Or maybe even 6 months. What's the hurry?
And if you think you are going to "recon" AmEx, you haven't done your homework.
Trying the 61 day cli is not the same as calling amex and begging then to reconsider. I think it was Bob Hope who said that a bank is a place that loans you money just as soon as you prove you don't need it. Paraphrasing from memory... I am many things, but Pollyanna isn't one of them.

I'm totally bummed.
Today was day 61 and I went online and requested my 3x CLI from my $1k SL to $3k.
Got the 7-10 day message.
I just called and spoke with a CSR and they listed off several reasons. It was a long list and I was quite surprised as all of my scores now are over 700, my score from AMEX is 694, about 10 points higher than when I was approved.
Some reasonings were:
Not enough time with AMEX (seems inaccurate)
Too many new cards
Balances too high (told them I recently did a BT and moved all of my high balances to my new PenFed card, but 2-3 days ago moved $3.3k of that balance to Discover, giving me two cards under 49% UTI while all my other cards have a zero balance).
There was more, but the list was so long and I was so taken back I can't recall, but the above was the gist of it.
I know the not enough time isn't right cuz people here get the increase all the time on their first AMEX.
I have used the card religiously for two months and always paying it down before a balance reports.
It's been at a $0 balance for a few days now.
I asked the CSR if they can do a recon and he said he'd send it to the UW I believe for review and he said he would notate about why the PenFed card is high and how I did BT's, etc.
Also had him mention how at $1k, AMEX is now one of my lowest cards and said I had been approved for a Discover at $7k and my PenFed at $10.5k.
What are the odds I will be successful?
I knew this was a possibility, but I am stubborn and feel like I'm being penalized for doing the right thing and now want to start using cards from companies who seem invested in me and my progress like Discover and PenFed.
Blah.
Sorry for rambling.
Hi T8K, I totally understand where you're coming from. Remember I told you that back in May my request was also denied. I also felt disappointed. But what I did instead is to use those 90 days to show them that I deserved it and put all of my spending (conservative) on that card, paying it off in full leaving small balances to report at statement cut each month and seemed to work to my advantage this time around. That frustration will pass, you will soon realize that you are still getting a lot more from using the card and come November you would finally get your approval. It's also great that Discover seems to like you enough to grow your account. Still waiting for them to give me a yes on a CLI, but that's ok (UPDATE! Tried my luck requesting a CLI from Discover, inspired by your thread and got a $500 increase.
. Don't sweat it too much.
I was approved for 10k SL. and on my 61 day CLI, i requested 3x but got denied (which i expected). Requested lower to about 20k ish and got countered with 14.1k i was bummed it wasnt the CLI that i was hoping for but 40% isnt too shabby after all.
Try again next time, im sure they'll be nicer to you ![]()
my 181 day is coming up too, sometime next month so im kinda excited for that ![]()
