Last year I applied for the AMEX Blue Travel Rewards card and was declined with a 720 FICO. About 2 months ago I was thinking I really wanted to get my foot in the door with AMEX and applied for the Green Charge card and was instantly approved. After seeing a lot of posts in these message boards about how people with FICOs of 660s, 670s and 680s getting instantly approved for AMEX BCE and EveryDay I got confident and wanted to try myself. I even saw someone post that they are at 48% utilization and was still instantly approved. My FICO is a 698 right now and my utilization is at 42%. I have a very thick credit portfolio with no baddies. Between 8 cards that I have $29,600. I've paid off 1 brand new car in the past 7 years, and have $7k left to pay on a car that I got a loan for $16k for. I have a good annual salary, savings, retirement and stocks. Yesterday I was declined for the AMEX BCE.
What does it take to get to get approved for an AMEX credit card?
Hmmmmm.....I was able to get an Amex Green and ED card two months after getting in with Amex and a 2x CLI as well. Maybe give it another month or two and try again.

Gotta know more about your profile, Joey.
Score isn't everything.
How much are you using the Green card? It is a way to show them your payment history. More than two months is probably needed, and a fairly consistent usage, I would think.
The utilization may be on the high side, with a 700ish FICO. On the high side regardless, actually.
I didn't see your utilization there but I think that may be a huge factor in your case as to why you haven't been approved. Maybe get that much lower and you might have a better shot at another Amex card as well as more positive history on your Green might make a difference. My overall utilization has been consistently under 10% and I've had no problems getting other Amex cards.

UTL may very well be it, but until I see the rest of the profile I can't give an educated guess or lay judgement as to why there was a denial here.
My total UTL was approx 15% when I apped the PRG and ED with a ~674 EX FICO, and It was approx 20% on my AMEX BSP. ($2,400/$12,000)
I've been recenly approved for the AMEX Green charge card in September then was approved for the Discover It with a 6k limit and the CSP with a $8.5k limit in October. I'm thinking if anything they declined me for utilization and inquires. But still the utilization should still be able to be overlooked. I saw someone on this board get approved with 50% utilization. Only reason why mine is so high is because I had a pet emergency last month.

I think Amex has been loosening up a bit on recon. I've seen several success stories on this site related to that. Have you thought about calling the EO and going from there and explaining what happened?
I'm applying for the AMEX PRG here in the next few weeks with 6 months history and 5% utilization with $18,900 annual salary (FAKO via TU: 732)
In any event if I get that miserable 7-10 business days (is it AMEX that does that?) and I decide to call up the recon line, will it be another hard pull??
I've read on here about being careful if you call up AMEX for recon because they hard pull a lot?
