AMEX Credit Pull Policy

I've read that if you're a current AMEX customer, they don't always pull your credit for additional cards. I'm an authorized user on my partner's Gold card, and given that my card number differs from hers and I do utilize the card, I was wondering if I could expect a hard pull for applying for additional cards.

Re: AMEX Credit Pull Policy

I am not 100% sure...but I believe that since you are only a AU on the card and not a co-signer/guarantor,  you will get a hard pull for any new product that you want guaranteed under your name and SSN.

Re: AMEX Credit Pull Policy

Always expect the inital hard pull when you become a brand new basic cardmember.

AMEX will typically use their last soft pull of your EX Fico Score 8 for any new applications; however, you must wait until AMEX has soft pulled your score - this is where most people get tripped up. After you become a basic cardmember and set up your online account, it can take as much as 30 - 45 days before your soft-pull EX score appears in your account. To be safe, I usually advise new members to wait at least 60 days before appying for a new card after becoming a new member for the best chance at being soft pulled for new accounts.

Others who have been an AU before becoming a basic cardmember can chime in with their experiences. Per usual YMMV.

Re: AMEX Credit Pull Policy

That's good information! I would like to acquire a Delta card and the Marriott card, so that's good to know. My current goal is to pull off a Southwest personal and business card for a companion pass early in the new year, but the AMEX products will be up next. I like to plan ahead.

I think in my case it took them 3 or 4 months until they used a SP after getting approved for my gold card.

Just keep in mind that you can’t reapply for a card in 31 days and you can’t get approved for more than two cards in 91 days with AMEX

Does this apply to charge and credit cards?

Re: AMEX Credit Pull Policy

You should definitely expect an HP if you’re looking to become a primary cardholder (charge OR credit) with Amex. Good luck! Amex is great

Amex Cash Magnet: 24.4k
Fidelity Visa: 21.5k

Re: AMEX Credit Pull Policy

I was an AU on my father’s bce account. I canceled the acount in may ‘18 after he died. When i apped for my own bce last month I got a hp on my ex report.

amex only provides fico scores for the primary card holder, not for any au.

Another good thing is that it takes about two months before it the Amex card shows up on your report. So that means the account already aged 2 months and you are going to take less of a hit on your scores.

Re: AMEX Credit Pull Policy

Interesting, I can maybe provide some DPs

From my end Amex SP'd every other app I had done after being approved for a BCE, I was trying to get the cash magnet as well and wasnt aware that I couldnt have 2 cards within the same rewards family which was automatic denials. Now, I had read that the SP after being a member and still expected another HP that would of been merged into one since its the same day. Well, not knowing what I did now. When I was trying to get the CM I would submit the app and it would cancel out. So I thought it was something goofy on my side. so i tried another 3 times over the week and it canceled each time. I did end up getting the denial letters in from amex and each one of them stated because I got the BCE I couldnt get the CM at that time.
