AMEX Plat Card offer in mail: Question

If I go to the site, put in my RSVP code and last 4 digits of my SSN, is it going to be a HP to apply for this offer they sent me?  I have a BCE with them, so I figure the RSVP code might be linked to that and thats why they ask for only the last 4 digits.  I don't want an HP until 2019.  I've only had 2 this year and want some from 2017 to fall off first.  TIA.

From what I understand, if you already have an AMEX, it's just a soft pull. I just got my first AMEX, so I'd wait for others to chime in to confirm, though.

Re: AMEX Plat Card offer in mail: Question

All signs are pointing towards a SP. Not only do you have an offer and it's asking for only the last 4 digits, but you are also an existing customer. In my experience-and lots of other people's- Amex does SP for existing customers. I think you're good to go. Check for specific wording. It may say something like "we'll use information we have on file for you to extend this offer."

Re: AMEX Plat Card offer in mail: Question

Thanks everyone!  I went digging through the small print to see if it said anything specific (before I saw responses here), and thats when I noticed the $550 AF.

Thanks but no thanks.  I am not a big spender and would never be able to recoup that kind of yearly cost.

The $550 annual fee ain't exactly in the fine print... they make it known.

Perhaps.  But I didn't see it (nor did I have prior knowledge) until I started rifling through the brochures in the nice big pretty envelope.  I suspect since I've been with them almost 2 years and my scores are all over 800 now that's why they sent it to me.

Re: AMEX Plat Card offer in mail: Question

You don’t need to be a big spender in order to take advantage of the Amex Platinum.

Will you spend $200 in airline charges this year ? If you fly SW, Delta or AA and will spend $200 in a year at one of those airlines. Buy a gift card and use it on flights.

Do you spend $200 on Uber or Uber Eats a year ? Will you use that service once a month ?

If you do both of those things, the card becomes a net $150 AF.

Then will you spend $50 twice a year at Saks ?

Then it becomes a net $50 annual fee.

Will you ever use an airport lounge ? Free breakfast at Hilton Resorts ? Gold Status at marriot/Starwood ? Excellent customer service from Amex ? The Hotel collection $75 credit at resorts ?

What do you value the above perks at ?

At that point it’s much easier to judge the value of the card. If you don’t spend enough at those businesses to take advantage of the credits and those status perks or lounge access isn’t worth the $50 to you then the platinum isn’t the right card for you.

I have already exceed the $50 net annual fee after Credits. Two stays at the Hilton with free breakfast and 2 $75 resort credits. I haven’t even had the card 4 months yet and I’m already ahead. I barely swipe my platinum either.
