AMEX Plat application/recon

Hi all!

This is my first post on myFICO forums, so heres what ive got: Ive heard of people getting approved by AMEX with mid-high 600s. My background is mid 600s across the board. I jumped 120 pts since September 2021, putting in overtime with verifications and disputes etc with the bureaus. I am expecting 1 last collection to all off in the next 30 days if all goes well. I have multiple CCs with banks like Cap One, NFCU, USAA, PenFed, the highest limits being $5k.

Im also AD military. I know AMEX waives the AF for the Platinum. Given my BG, im pretty sure ill be denied.  Im a commissioned officer, so salary and pay is substantially above the average enlisted member. So my questions are:

- i will be using it extensively for travel and what not, but also in terms of explaining my situation etc. Does the AMEX recon line bode well with military members with challenged (on the mend) reports?

- Im a commissioned officer, so is salary and pay taken into account at all on the recon line?

- Is being added as an AU to an exisiting platinum mbrs account aid in being approved for my own?

Starting off by thanking you for your service.

As for your questions while successes do happen,  as a rule it's tough to get an AMEX denial overturned on recon.

If there is some grey area regarding your creditworthiness you might get an analyst who is willing to grant you as a service member a bit of leeway but your SCRA benefits don't include entitlement of approval.    Being added as an AU isn't particularly meaningful because as an AU you would not be responsible for the debt.

Your best bet may be to let that last collection fall off your reports and let your scores recover, then apply.   Odds of approval with FICO scores in the mid-600s are not good but are significantly better if you're in the 680-690 range.

Yes, thank you for your service. And welcome to MyFICO.

If all the baddies are gone in 30 days, I'd wait for that to update your credit reports before applying.

Thanks so much for the gratitude and also your advice! I'll just hold off until the baddies fall off and let the scores continue to ride
