AMEX Pre-Qualified old address

I finally have a pre-qualifed offer from AMEX. I am in the process of purchasing a house so I can't apply until after closing.  I plan to move the day I close (Fri) or Sat. If I apply and put my new address on the actual applicaiton would it be denied just based on the address change? I would understand if there are delays for verification, I can work with that. The offer is for BCE, $250 with $1000 spend in 3 months. I can definitely do that to purchase stuff for the new house.

First, you should go to Post Office and place your change of address on the day you move and make it effective immediately.  Then apply for Amex using the old address, since that was the address of the pre-qual you received.  When you apply, if it is instant approval  (probably will be instant cause you are a pre-qual) you will be guided to set-up your online account. Amex will mail your card with the welcome package to the old address.  The post office then will forward the card and package to your new address. The split second you receive it, go to your online account and update your address.  My sister just did this with Amex.  We worried that the Post Office might not forward credit card.  However, they did forward it.

Re: AMEX Pre-Qualified old address

Your ADDRESS only matters on the pre-qual because of the SP they did on your report shows that address.  Your address doesn't matter for an approval, it's based on you and your credit performance not where you live.  Just close on your new place and apply for the card after your head stops spinning from all of the chaos of the closing.  You have bigger things to deal with than this BS of changing your address and using your old one on the app crap that's being suggested.

That really isn't nice language and unnecessary.  I am only stating how my sister handled it.  Since you don't agree, simply say that without insulting language. My sister wanted to use her old address because she was afraid that she wouldn't get an instant approval and would have to provide some type of verification if she used her new address. She wasn't sure how Amex would match her to the pre-qual.  If you know how it matches simply state the facts.

Play nice children...

On most applications, they do say something about matching information. A different address would set off a flag.

That being said, you can call them directly and apply that way or simply wait until the dust settles on your move and apply then. Besides, unless AMEX is offering a huge MR points deal, getting a new credit card isn't that important. Always always always look for those big MR points deals!!!

Re: AMEX Pre-Qualified old address

Just wanted to update this for anyone else finding this thread. A week before I moved, I updated my address on my accounts and my credit reports were updated with the new address.

I closed and moved on my house and applied for the prequalified offer (had to look for it under my old address) but entered my new address on the application. I got a message to call in, just had to verify some info and then was approved. $10,000 for BCE with that awesome $250 offer. I also applied for the PRG for the 50,000 MR points. Once again, I had to call in and verify some info and then was approved. That call took way longer but they offered to expedite the shipping of the card. I'm glad for the 1-2 punch with the hardpull and looking forward to what happens in 61 days on the BCE.

Thanks all for your advice!
