So I just applied with AMEX BCE and got approved for $1,000. Today I got two things from them. A letter notifiying me of a change of email to my account and also a welcome packet inviting me to apply to the Gold card with an RSVP. It says welcome, but how do I know if it's really connected with the first card I just got? I feel like applying for a second card would be a no win at this point if it was sent out NOT connected to new card, since they would just do a SP and see that I have gotten 2 new cards recently (amex and discover) and 2 declines from them on a business card (accidently applied twice for my DH but it went on my SS, mistakenly).
Do I have anything to lose by applying? Not sure I even want another at this point as I am satified with our mix of 3 major CC, 3 retail cards and a car loan. How quickly do new cards post on your Fico reports, or is it just the SP and the HP they see that might detour them from approving?
Yeah not long after I got my BCE, they sent me mailers for enhanced offers on PRG and ED. Typically these are similar to the offers you can get through incognito browsing, so they're not as time sensitive as they make them out to be.
I didn't apply. I decided to wait. However I just got another welcome offer in the mail for 50,000 bonus for a gold card. Funnily enough I just used the card today to purchase a phone for my daughter and will be paying it off tommorrow. Don't know if that will help or not.
I'm also not sure if I want a Gold card (non revolving) card...
Anyone have thoughts about the advantages of it, how it might build a higher FICO number/credit profile vs the yearly cost of the card?
Is the "gold card" you're mentioning the Premier Rewards Gold card? Did the RSVP offer state how much spending you'd have to do on the card to qualify for the 50,000 points? The public offer for PRG is 25,000 points on $2,000 spending in 3 months. So if the offer is for less than $2K spend I'd grab it in a heartbeat.
yes it is the Premier Rewards Gold card and the offer is 50,000pts after $2,000 spend on eligible purchases in the first 3 months.
$0 intro 1st annual fee, then $195,
up to $100 airline credit (when incidental fees are charged.)
up to $75 hotel credit, plus room upgrade whwn 2 nights are booked.

My personal view is that there's no point in having a charge card vs a revolving card, unless you travel a lot and can make good use of the perks that attach to the charge card. E.g., in my case I have the business platinum card, but since I haven't done much business travel the card has been mostly money out the window for me. If I had done a lot of business travel, it would have been worth the annual fee.
