I would say if your EXP score is 690ish+ and you have a good AAoA and a fairly thin CC file you should have a decent shot at it.. Assuming the lates aren't recently and your report is fairly clean.. Amex likes thin and clean files... A 30 day late isn't going to destroy you unless it was recent.
Thanks for your input, CreditCuriousity. The late that is being removed is from May 2014, however I have two additional 30-day lates that are older and as of now will still be present on my reports. Other than those, I am baddie-free.
I would personally wait for the 2014 late to be removed before applying.. The older ones I wouldn't be worried about as I have a slew of ones from 4 years ago and no problem with Amex. I also had CA's/CO's as well when I was approved, since removed.. All were old though. Hope this helps.
It definitely helps. I'm surprised that American Express doesn't mind the thin profiles, and especially with regard to the SPG card. I thought that was one of their more difficult cards to acquire. Unfortunately my 30-day lates aren't quite that old but hopefully they're old enough not to deny me. I'll probably wait until October when a few inquiresage off. Thanks again for your help!

They don't mind thin, clean profiles. They, as is also the case with Discover, want to grab people early hoping to have a customer for life.

If it were me, and I had 5 years of SPG membership, scores near 700, with the lates factored into that, I would not wait to do this app. The main thing is, the annual 30k points offer has a hard expiration date of September 14. Wait till October and you give up 10k points or so.
I would also go at the application from within my SPG account. Log in to SPG, follow the link they have there to apply for the card.
Is there a chance you get denied? Sure. If so, you know for certain that you didn't get the card.
Is there a better chance that you DO get the card? My money is on yes, you do get the card. Co-branded are simply easier to obtain, and my own theory is, co-branded with a history with that brand is a shoe-in, particularly with 700. You may only get $1k, but I bet you do get it.
Everyone on myFICO, including me, has an opinion. There is a basis to many opinions here, but we are all amateurs. The real decision is up to AMEX.
edit: Oh, and I apped for it early Wednesday morning. It's in my hands now. Three business days UPS. Fastest delivery of any card I've gotten, though I have not gotten around to the Prestige yet.

Hi, I've been an SPG member for 5+ years now. I hit their gold status annually, so the AMEX SPG has been on my radar for quite some time. With my scores recently climbing into the 690s/700s (also waiting for recent 30-day to be removed), this goal of attaining the card has become more realistic even though I still have a long journey ahead. As of last week, I have one revolver, the QS1 w/$300 SL. I plan on requesting a CLI after the third statement hits, in addition to applying for the Discover it at that time. My question is what would AMEX like to see from my profile in ordered to be considered for approval? For what it's worth, my AAoA is between 3.8y-4.3y depending on the report. Thanks for your help!
While cobranded cards are usually easier to obtain, I definitely don't think the generalization applies to the SPG card. It's arguably one of AmEx's best/popular offerings, and I firmly believe it is way above the Delta Gold card in terms of underwriting criteria. I would presume that it is in line with the Blue series cards offered by AmEx. It's impossible to know for sure, but that's just where I would rank it after having so many of AmEx's cards. I had one for a few years before finally dumping it this past May. When I was approved for mine, I had a 720 EX, ~7 inquiries, no bads, and had the BCE and Zync cards for a few years prior. It's one of the very few cards that I wasn't instantly approved for upon applying.
Scores are getting close to what they want to see, but I'm not sure about that late. There have been people approved for AmEx cards with much worse on their reports, however, I prefer to set myself up for success rather than hoping for miracles. The current offer is certainly hard to pass up, so you'll just have to weigh the value of an EX inquiry. Best of luck if you apply!
I would definitely apply via my SPG account, but I think I want to wait until my Quicksilver card begins reporting (it's been two weeks). CCT has my FICO increasing another seven points once it reports. I've heard that Capital One is notorious for dawdling before they report new accounts to the credit bureaus, so I hope that it reports within the next four weeks. If not, I'll probably take a swing at the application anyway as EX has the least amount of INQs. And for what it's worth my income is mid-eighties.
