Amazon Visa Pre-approval denied but should still give real application a try?

Hello everyone,

My credit scores are above 730 but I am repeatedly denied by the Amazon Visa Pre-approval page. Should I apply the real application regardless?  Has anyone been approved despite not having been pre-approved?  Conversely, is it a waste of a hard inquiry if one doesn't get pre-approved first?

Amazon Visa is the only card I need at moment because I shop at Amazon so much.

Thanks.

Chase's pre-approvals are generally pretty solid. They are AI generated and they don't look at your scores alone. While FICO 8 scores in the 730s meets the score criteria, there are other factors which their system may have found unfavorable such as too many inquires, too many recent approvals, DTI issues, large balance(s) being carried, other adverse information such as a late/missed payment, or a prior relationship with Chase. It could also be something as simple as an Identity verification issue.

The more information you can provide here, the more people can try to offer their experiences and advice to help you decide if it's worth you taking a HP on a cold app.

I've almost never been preapproved for any of the cards for which I've been approved.  So I wouldn't let that stop me.

With how picky Chase is, I wouldn't risk the HP without a being at least being pre-approved.

With  Prime Deal Days coming, I would try now.

There are other options if you get declined:

The Prime Store card by Synchrony and the Affinity FCU Visa.   These both offer 5% as well.
