Hi fellow fico-ers! I recently applied for the Amex Blue Cash Everyday card after getting a pre-qual offer, only to be denied straight away with the following message:
"We're sorry, EnumC. We can't approve your application at this time. You'll receive a letter within the next 10 business days explaining why we were unable to approve your application. While we can't approve your application today, we can offer you access to our free credit report and monitoring service, so you can monitor your score as you continue to search for a Card. Click here to learn more about American Express® MyCredit Guide and enroll."
I've got a stable part-time job and was previously approved for Discover student, Ollo optimum, Capital One Journey, and I just got a Chase Freedom Unlimited last month with around 8-9 months of credit history. According to KC, I'm sitting at a 733 and 734 for Transunion & Equifax respectively.
The only mistake I regret making was applying to a bunch of credit unions early on but then never applied for a credit card with them. This meant I've got ten hard pulls on Experian, with four of them from credit unions. There are five hard pulls on the other two.
Does anyone have experience with Amex recons? Are they usually pretty stringent on them? I would appreciate any tips and suggestions on what I should do next.
Thanks, and most importantly, stay safe!

I recently was denied for Amex Blue Cash Everyday and went on to check the denial letter online, only to be greeted with:
Sorry, your application cannot be accessed. Please try again later.
After calling the recon line, I got automatically transferred to a rep, who informed me that I was denied for having opened too many recent credit lines and that [the credit analysts] are no longer manually reviewing applications due to staffing impact by covid-19.
Has anyone faced similar issues in the past week or so with AMEX or was that rep providing inaccurate info?
It seems safe to say that Amex has indeed suspended recon at this present time as Brian pointed out below. You can re-apply after 30 days or wait until recon re-opens to re-apply.

No, it's true. You can still talk to underwriting, but corporate said no recons. There have been a couple of people able to get it done though.

That matches up perfectly with what the representative told me over the phone. I appreciate the confirmation!

Sorry OP for your denial
Thanks. I have a thin file and had two credit cards opened in the past two months, and the only reason I still applied was that I got a pre-qualification. It turns out the pre-qual doesn't mean much and I still ended up getting rejected. You know what they say... you learn by failing! Lesson learned. ![]()

I reconn'ed last week, and was successful with Amex. In fact, it was an automatic decision once the representative submitted it.

I thought I read about an Amex recon![]()
That is abummer about the denial. Recent DP's suggest that they seem to be tightning up a bit with UW, relating to too mnay accounts and lates etc. And considering what's going with with reduced staff across the Globe, one should keep this in the back of their mind when applying.
That if denied you may not get the chance to recon, or if you do it may take much longer to get through.
I wonder how many average people "non Fico members" are seeking Credit during this time?
