Re: American Express Hilton Honors Curiousities

OP, the five year timeframe you referred to is correct in that AmEx will consider applicants at the 5yr and one month mark after BK discharge, but not if AmEx was burned. It’s just more of their generic BK policy - approve no one who is less than 5 years post-BK.

Figure about 10 years after a BK if you burned them.  I just got back in a few months ago after 10 years, even with credit scores of 812 (EQ), 823 (TU) ad 806 (EX)

I spent 10 years on bl. Tip, whenever you try to see if you are on blacklist, make sure your Ex is not locked or frozen. You might still get the same letter but if they cant see your report, you might keep on receiving same excuse because of that lock freeze.

Re: American Express Hilton Honors Curiousities

Thank you all for the great advice.

I was just reading that many who had burned AmEx, not necessarily with BK, but with collections and charge-offs, were able to get back in with them at the five year mark, so, that's why I tried.

Oh well, like I said, nothing gained, nothing lost.

Will just wait more time.

Re: American Express Hilton Honors Curiousities

FWIW i received my first Amex approval this January again. They were IIB in my filing in 5/2012. I'm not sure if they derive their dates off that or from first default date, which i'm assuming mine offhand was in 2008 which would put me right about the 10 year mark. My card i received says i have been a member since '99, so coming off the list is somewhere in the 8/9/10 yr range depending on what date they internally go by.
