I don't understand why I was denied my 61 day 3X CLI for my Amex BCP today because of my Chapter 7 bankruptcy 6 years ago. Both are loans and lines of credit. Why approve the card and not the CLI? The reps that I spoke with on the phone could not answer my question.

I'm confused. You say BCP CLI was denied, what was approved?

The Amex BCP card. I was approved for it 61 days ago.
Just because they approved you for a card, doesn't mean they are willing to give you more credit than that. Also, just because you got denied today, doesn't mean you'll get denied in 91 days. I was declined for my first CLI after my initial approval of $2k, but now I have a card at $30k with them, plus 2 more credit cards with them, a personal charge with $35k POT, and a business charge as well. Be patient.
**edited for clarity** I do not have a BK, nor ever have. I was denied for score, which was around 700.

They said the reason was the BK. I reduced the amount from a $4000 increase to a $2500 increase and was denied again for the same reason. As long as I have the BK on my reports, I cannot get a CLI. So it will be 4 years before I can get a CLI.
Amex has just in recent years started allowing folks with a BK on their file to be approved for their cards. You used to have to wait until the BK was removed to be approved. They now allow folks with a BK over 5 years to be approved but they may make them wait a longer time to get a CLI. Maybe they want to see a certain amouunt of payment history before CLI since you've had a Bk in the past.
Yeah, this is right. With a BK, they will let you in but keep you on a short leash. Chase does this too -- even if they have let somebody back in after years on the blacklist, every time you got for a CLI, they will bring it up and want to discuss it. It's like you have been released from prison but you are on three years of probation.
