with a current fico exp score of 697, i think your chances to getting approved for amex gold charge card are pretty high.
i had a lower exp score (about 688) and i got approved for the platinum.
my history was very thin too when i applied.

What were some of your other stats when you got approved for the Platinum?
the time i applied for the amex platinum, i just had 3 cards and i was an au on the oldest one.
au on citi costco card $10.5k cl - open date was 7/2016
cap one secured $200 cl- open date was 9/2019
discover it cashback $3k cl- open date 12/2019
0 late payments on any of the accounts
no derogs, collections, etc on file.
util at the time was 23%
i applied through offer from my amex corporation advantage program in january 2020.

Ah. Yes. The CAP. I've tried that too. It just helps with the AF but the underwriting still is based on your personal credit.
