Amex BCE CLI

I was approved for an Amex Blue Cash Everyday in January with a SL of $500.  I have made pretty heavy use of the card, was well as made multiple payments each month.  I got a little impatient and asked for a CLI and was declined.  Have I managed to push out the possible CLI date for another 3 months, or may I still have a chance with the 5 month possibility that was offered in an email?    This is my first experience with Amex, so I'm just not sure what to expect.  I've had very little luck with CLIs from Synchrony, but Commenity seems to luv me a lot and Cap One hasn't been too generous since I purchased my car 2 years ago.

Thanks for any advice!

Re: Amex BCE CLI

No, a denial for a CLI because you applied too early does not reset the clock.  The denial message would have suggested that you call them; if you did call the CSR will tell you the same thing.

The $500 starting credit limit and reference to an email indicates that you are in Amex's version of "credit steps."  After 180 days (5 statement cuts) you will automatically receive a 2X CLI (assuming you don't have any late payments or other derogatories.  Despite what the email says, you don't have to carry a balance every month).  Once out of "credit steps" by receiving the 2X CLI, some members have been able to immediately request a 3X increase and get it approved so that's something to keep in mind.  Otherwise, you will have to wait 181 days from the date the 2X CLI was granted to apply for the 3X increase.

Your latest FICO scores appear to be quite strong I'm wondering why you're in "credit steps" in the first place.

Re: Amex BCE CLI

Thank you for the advice.  My scores have increased quite a bit due to recently paying off over half of my cc debt.  I received a promotion and have devoted every additional $ to cc payoff, as well as my tax return.  My Util also was improved greatly by a Disco It approval and balance transfer.  I applied and was approved for the Amex BCE prior to all of the BTs being reflected on my credit report, as well as some of the recent payoffs not showing at the time.  I of course did all this prior to finding this forum... so now I am attempting to stay on the path to excellent credit.  Hopefully I will make it out of the "credit steps"... I believe my 4th statement just cut, so just about another month to wait and see.
