Amex CLI declined - wanted to share

Went for my 3x CLI after previously trying before.  Was declined again.  I am not bitching here, simply sharing for others and always appreciate feedback.

  • Number of recent new accounts - <--  I have no issue here with this, accurate and no biggie.
  • Proportion owed on loan balancess - <--  Was a bit puzzled here but oh well.  Only loan I have is the car I bought in February.
  • Length of time an Amex customer - <--  Meh, whatevers, but I get it.  Chase I guess is more friendly quicker by chance?
  • Lenth of time since credit established accounts - <--  No issue with this at all, 100% accurate since I really started this 11/2014.
  • EX score of 728 - <--  Ok?  Odd thing here?  The CSR specifically said it was based on an April 18th report.  Why not todays date?

Anyway, just sharing here and not venting or anything.  I fully understand I am still establishing my profile and as always will get better giving it more time.

Re: Amex CLI declined - wanted to share

I got mine in January and waited the 61 days and was declined also. But I didn't get too upset b/c they started me out with more than twice what I was expecting. I get to try again during the first week of June. Only going to ask for 2X though instead of the full 3X--I know I wouldn't get that so I don't want to appear too greedy and scare them off-LOL

Well as U say, no big. Use this time to regroup continue pressing forward and request again (with a more solid profile in tow). Nuff said.

Re: Amex CLI declined - wanted to share

Thanks OP for posting this info. I would take this and just wait the 61 days before ever trying the CLI again as someone applying new to Amex. It doesn't hurt your chances, it (almost) only helps. Obviously, it requires caution and care but most likely it will be good news if you wait longer.

Thank you.  Like I said, zero issue with the reasons they stated and all valid.  I'll wait 6 months and try again this.  That will put me with them at the one year mark and obviously my accounts will be older as well.

They use the last SP they have for CLI.

When there was the 61 day rule, the SP maybe was from 15-30 days before the request. So people that new that the score changed a lot, waited to see the SP on EX before asking for CLI.
