Avoid Chase, and Cap1 for now? Maybe a Venture(or quicksilver) or Freedom in a couple of months? Then CSP most likely after the new year or later?
Sallie Mae doesn't ahve any prequalify sites to check right? Amex being PreQual should help that cause I'd think. I would just ahve to decide on the order of applying.
After I get married besides a possible winter break trip, the futrher I get thru school we will probably travel alot more. I do forget that we drove 10 hours to St Louis last May, and went 5 hours to the Twin Cities in March, so I consider that 3 &1/2 vacations in the last 14 months after counting Disneyworld last August and Spring Break flight to Baltimore/DC that I did this year.
She is a big traveler and has now gone to all 50 states(In Alaska her 50th right now, lucky); and we have plans to keep going places just nothing laid in stone yet with school and wedding to worry about first!

Sallie Mae has a 2,500/$25 bonus for making your first purchase.
Don't worry about which order you need to apply for Sallie and BCE. Sallie will be a TU HP & Amex will pull EX so they won't see the inquiries anyways.
IMO, you need to proceed under the impression that Chase will auto deny you for having opened more than 5 accounts within the last 2 years until this other person can provide proof the policy is limited to Chase cards. So you will need to plan accordingly.
You have a Discover card. What does it say your TU FICO is?
His Discover card being one, SM being number 2 and Amex being number 3.
Why would he be auto denied for 3 new accounts?
Discover when I click on "Your free FICO Score" Shows 746. My statement I believe cuts tonight as well, so that may change tommorrow, with a lower utilization so should go up. Last statement in may said 726
With those scores, you would be more than OK applying!
Also, I was approved for my Amex EDC with a 700 fico.

He wouldn't be. It would effect his chances later when/if he decides to app for Freedom and/or a CSP after opening these cards + possible Venture/Quicksilver. I believe I read OP has also gotten a car in the past 2 year correct?

If you're already under 10% utilization your score may go down because you may be at your "sweet spot" for maximized FICO. With a 746, I would app for Sallie right now.
I was auto approved for both the Freedom, then CSP a few weeks later, 4 new accounts opened in 24 months and with scores lower than his at the time.
AAoA being 8 months.
It's possible because I did it, and this was only a few weeks ago too, so the new polciies applied to me also.
I have a car loan from November 2012. So 2.5 years.
Im surprised at my own score, never carry much of a balance over, but one Credit Card and One Car loan, and alot of Federal Student loans(Unsub/Sub 1 perkins) I figured itd be lower still.

How did the new policy come into play when you only had 4 new accounts reporting in 24 months?
