Amex Financial Review

I have 5 Amex cards. (2 personal/5 business). I'm wanting to get the Amex Amazon Business card next month when the offer goes up for Prime Day. I have currently 50k in credit limit and two Gold cards.  One personal and one Business.  Only 20k in personal credit limit.  What are my chances of getting a financial review if I apply?  Heard 35k will trigger a review but I am way over.   They have offered me a Platinum card but I told them no since I'm not traveling right now.  I put a couple grand on most cards a month and pay in full every month.

35k is urban myth.  usually they allow 5 revolvers and unlimited charge cards.. so if at 5 revolvers would be denied unless willing to give up one of them.  Some people with significant assets and time with Amex can break that 5 revolver ceiling.  Doubt you would get a FR maybe asking for bank statement but highly doubt that if you have a long history with them.  I think charge card/revolvers are still separated.

you're not at 5 credit card products though right? most people can't overcome that and you would need to cancel a credit card card to get a 5th. (not charge cards)

I wouldn't worry about a full mandatory bank statements/tax returns FR just for applying.

you may get a bank statements request that's mandatory for the approval, but not to keep all of your accounts.

you may have credit pulled from your other cards to make the new card.

they may just give you another $20k.

if the income/spend makes sense, amex will go as high as you need them to go. But if you're reaching the limits of what they can give you, they will (hopefully) gracefully pull from your other cards to make the new card and then you can reallocate your limits how you like. as long as it's not business to personal.

IIRC they've been capping charge cards too for a few years.....at 10.    I'm sure their recent move to restrict SUB earnings within the same product families is way more impactful.   Agree that worst case would be wanting a peek at recent bank statements since they appear to be de-emphasizing 4506-C requests,  but that's not a FR either as the only consequence of failing to provide should be a denial, not AA on existing accounts.

I don't know if I'd call the $35K trigger a myth, but that trigger was only tied to emperical evidence that it was sometimes a threshold where a CLI application on an existing revolver might lead to what was essentially a POI request.

Re: Amex Financial Review

I only have 3 credit cards at the moment. One personal and two business. I have 2 Gold cards too.  I feel them looking at my last years tax return is less intrusive than looking at my bank statements.

I didn't realize they had more than three (platinum, gold, green). How does one acquire 10 AMEX charge cards? Smiley Very Happy

In my wallet: Local Credit Union $25,000, Northwest Bank VISA $25,000, AMEX BCP $15,000
