Amex Platinum Card with Experian FICO 8 715

So I just got approved for the Amex Gold Card with an Experian FICO 8 705. I'm looking at the Amex Gold Card next and my credit score has since increased by 10 points. I'm looking at getting the Platinum Card to finish out my set up. My Gold Card only got a pay over time limit of $2,000 which doesn't really matter to me since I don't carry balances. But does that indicate the Amex just barely wanted to approve me for the Gold Card? Will a credit score increase of 10 points from a 705 to 715 outweigh me just recently opening up the Amex Gold Card?

Amex takes anything with a pulse. The Platinum card's only difference is the higher annual fee. It's no more difficult to be approved for any other Amex card.

Sort of.  Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago.  Barely got the Gold, $2000 POT limit.   Then a week later I applied for one of their business cards (BBC) and got $7000 SL.  The $2000 POT limit stayed that way for nearly two years before they bumped it to $7000.  In that time I applied for a business platinum which gave me a $25,000 POT limit.  And then I applied for a BCE and was given a $1000 limit which they would not raise.  A year later I cancelled the BCE because I was sick of the limit.  At that point the BBC was at $15,000.

So to answer your question, yes you were probably "barely" accepted for Amex personal cards, but you might get higher limits on their business cards.  Give it a year or two and your personal POTs and CLs will start to creep up.

LOL - w/a $1,000 SL, risk to Amex is low... Still nice to be in their ecosystem.
