Not too dissapointed about this one because I was frankly surprised that I was pre-approved at all (I was pre-qualified for a Gold back in February but never bit). Also, because it's an SP, no real harm. Checked in on the site, was told I was pre-approved, put in the same income they've had on me since I finished this past year's taxes, bam, instant denial. Kinda strange, but oh well.
The status check page won't load and explain specifically why I was denied - my scores have all been updated as you can see below - though because the school year is starting, I'm wondering if a student loan JUST popped up and maybe spooked Amex? (I did just get an email from my servicer yesterday with login deets)
It would've been nice to get such a great card so early on my credit journey, but considering I lucked out to spend 1k for BOA I think it's for the best I didn't waste the bonus haha.
Back into the garden I go until I can cop that United Explorer ![]()
UPDATE: Called in with the phone system and seems to be that my income was too low, which makes sense - the annual fee is around 4% of my stated income so I guess that was a red flag haha. I technically have made more than last year so far after taxable scholarships and such but am trying to limit my stated income to what I can prove thru returns to avoid issues if I ever get a FR. I'm glad to hear it wasn't an issue with my profile overall - and this probably means that I'd be accepted for a card with a lower or no fee like the Green (which I'd be down for anyways). Maybe next year?
I guess it's for the best, if you wouldn't have been able to hit the bonus or would've had trouble
5K spend is tough for many people
Since you sound patient enough, it seems like a good idea to wait for more Chase cards or maybe that USB/WF goal card for you.
Maybe app for some desired Amex biz cards in the meanwhile if need be
