I'm up for renewal in August, and not happy to be hit with the $550 annual fee, especially since there is really no travel right now. I'd like to see how I can get a good renewal offer, in the hopes of keeping the card one more year before downgrading. I push a lot of spend through it - probably 2K per month - but it's not worth the price tag now.
Any techniques and/or pointers on how to get a great offer?
Also, what people are getting offered right now?

Thanks @simplynoir . Sorry for being so basic, but I just don't have past experience. I contact AMEX saying I want to cancel / downgrade my card and they may make an offer to entice me to stay?
My aspire is up in October and I'm thinking of downgrading. My 180 days after cli is up 8/1 and I'm also going to request cli again. Does one impact the other?
Pretty much. Going into it it's better to be prepared to have the card closed or downgraded because there will be some customer service reps who will be trigger happy in doing it for you. The fact you sound like you don't mind that is a plus in a way. I'll have to look it up to be sure but I believe the retention department are the only ones that can offer you anything, front line reps can't do much for you
No, performing a product change should not affect your CLI request whether it's done before or after either a PC or CLI
