Amex Platinum Welcome Bonus? If i already have a Gold Card

I have been searching the internet and forums and i don't seem to find the write answers.

I Opened a Amex Gold Card in July 2012. But i would like to Upgrade to Amex Platinum. Will i get the 40,000 Bonus Points?

Some People are saying yes and some people are claim i will not get the bonus since im already a member

Pretty sure you'll have to apply for it but I'm not sure.

Best thing to do is ask in chat after you log into your account.  Very easy and then you know for sure.

Go ahead and find out for us as I am also curious. I will be upgrading my Green card to a plat in April.

No you wont get the bonus because you already opened a charge card (gold)

Ok I think i found the trick.

The Trick is to cancel the Gold Card(Had it for 2 Years now) and then Reapply for the Platinum Card. That way i can get the bonus points!.

I think it says in the terms if you have held any charge card in the past you are not elgible for the bonus
