Amex card member Soft Pulls on new a Credit Apps?

I've read somewhere in the forum that if you are already an Amex card member. Applying for a different Amex card only requires SP?

Is that true?

If I got declined for a CLI on my Amex BCE due to low EX credit score as they say. Should I even bother applying for a different card with them?

I mean if they deny me for a CLI due to my score, why would they approve me for a new card as its basically an alternative to a CLI.

The card I want to app for is the Delta Gold.

So I feel the SP is a bit deceiving, at least from what my understanding is: it's generally a SP for a denial (if you already have an Amex), but a HP for all approvals. At least all of my Amex's were HP's.

HP and they were all approved I assume?

My first app with Amex was denied and was a HP. I re-applied after a month and was approved and got hit with another HP. Amex has been hitting my Experian score!

If you are an existing cardholder... apps are a SP, they will also do a HP ONLY if approved
NFCU $60.4k/PenFed $22.5k/Commerce $15K/53 $11K/Synovus $14K/BBT $11K/CapOne $12K/DCU $7.5K/BMO $7.5K/Chase $14.5k/Cabelas $10K/ and many many more!
Total CL $398600, plus car and RV loan.
Ooh. Ooh. Getting closer to that $500K mark!

Erick......

Listen, you got in with AMEX for $1K (borderline approval) and then denied on a CLI.  This should be setting off red flags and alarm bells in your head not tempting you to app for another card.  STOP thinking about it and work on your profile more so they warm up to you as it improves.   You'll see more things happen in your favor once you let your cards age a bit and bring your balances into the 5%/card range or less.  Amex is EX only for the most part and they base the CLI/APPs off the score you get monthly from them.  AMEX tells you what they're looking at every month when it updates.

Anyway original title / post.

AMEX card in your possession

APP = SP unless approved then HP

       or

NO AMEX in your possession

APP = HP no matter approved or denied

It can vary on the card. But, if you aren't getting a CLI, I doubt you'd get a new card.  But, if it is a co-branded card, it is possible.

The first step is reviewing their most recent SP.  If, you are close, they will do a HP to ensure nothing has changed.  If it isn't, you'll be approved.  If something drastic has changed for the negative, you could still get denied.

Yes, they were all approved. I have to agree with Austin, at this point I wouldn't app for the new card. It would suck to get the HP and a denial.

You have your answer right there in the future statement.  It's not like you need it for travel in the next 2 weeks right?  Just settle down a little bit and when it's coming up on the time to get on the plane then go for it a couple of weeks before and you should hopefully be able to get it then.  Keep in mind though too when you add another card to the mix with amex you can only request a CLI every 6 months after a CLI is approved.  So, I would probably hold off on bumping the BCE for the time being unless the one you want for travel is a charge card with airport perks like Platinum. If you're eyeing a charge card then just normal timing on the BCE should be fine for bumping the limit up.  Concentrate on the cards you have and make sure there's a pack of gum at least on each one for spend and hit that button on those routinely for added padding and score boost.

Re: Amex card member Soft Pulls on new a Credit Apps?

I still have a Chap 13 showing so I was told that as long as it is there AmEx will never give me a CLI or any other card.  My CL is also $1K and I was putting 20% - 30% on it each month and paying it in full.  Now I'm not using it as I have paid off all my cards except for one and I'm working on getting it down below 10%.
