Amex pop-up jail

I started my relationship with Amex exactly 1 year ago. I have the Delta Blue card and the basic Hilton card.

I have never missed a payment, and most of the time I let the statement close with a zero balance. Today I tried to apply for the Green card, but I received a message that I would not be eligible for the SUB . Why is this happening?

There isn't a 100% set formula for how they make the decision but factors they take into account include how frequently you've been obtaining new cards in general as well as with AMEX, the amount of spend and how often you use your current AMEX cards,  and how often you keep a card before closing it.   It isn't meant as a reputidation of you as a cardholder and you aren't permanently stuck in some kind of AMEX hell,  this policy is one aspect of their systemic blanket effort to deter card churning.

If you keep using your AMEX cards regularly along with your typical PIF (AMEX PIF) you'll eventually get out of jail, but nobody can predict how long it will take for that to happen.

Have you ever had the Green card in the past? If yes, this would explain the popup

I got this because I did a balance transfer of a relatively small balance ($300-600) once, lol.  I waited a few months and recently got their Delta Reserve and could take advantage of the SUB they had then.
