Amex preapproval/referral

Quick question. When I go on Amex's site, I am preapproved for 5 cards, including the one i want (BCE).  I also had my husband send me a referral to take advantage of the $75 bonus for that. On both the preapproval site and through the referral, the APR is between 14.99% and 24.9%. I remember reading that if it does not have a SET apr, but has this "between this and this", then it is not a true preapproval? Or does ths just apply to mailings? I just want to make sure before i apply. I am also an AU on is BCE, will this affect my CL at all? My CR is great across the board and fico on ex is 766. No baddies, 9% util across all cards, 2 inq.  130k income. Thank you for any help!

AMEX preapprovals are pretty solid. Are you already a card member or is this your first attempt with them? Sorry just read you are an AU on his card.

Your scores seems online for an approval. But yes solid apr's seem more of a sure shot.

Re: Amex preapproval/referral

Yes my first shot with them. I had read that preapprovals are pretty solid, but also read that if the apr varies, then its not as much of a sure thing. But, ive only read that with mail offers, wasnt sure about online preapprovals. Not sure if i should go for it or wait. He started out with score of 735 when he first applied and approved for 10k, 30k after 61 days. Id like to start out with a decent CL with them. Im always nervous to apply for any card! lol Thank u for your reponse!

Yes I think you have a solid shot, but it's up to you whether to apply. Good luck and keep us posted.

I applied with a lower score, less income, and many inquiries and got the ED no problem. From the sounds of your profile, you should be golden. AmEx is not as elusive as many people think.

Re: Amex preapproval/referral

Ok, gonna give this a shot! So, should I apply through the amex preapproval site or should i apply through the referral my husband sent me? Or dont it matter? Or even thru incognito tab? Hmm?

Re: Amex preapproval/referral

I’m more than confident that you will be approved, based on the stats you listed. Can you get a SUB along with that referral? If so, I’d say apply through the referral in incognito mode. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!!

Re: Amex preapproval/referral

Ok guys, just did it. I was approved for $8000, $250 bonus and $75 to husbands accout! Was shootin for full 10k, but Im good with this! I am not disappointed! Also the set APR is 18.99% . Ive worked sooo hard on my credit the past 3 years bringing it from 530 to 766! Now, Idk if i was going to do this next thing if i should do it now or wait? Ive been getting, no joke, at least 3 mailings per day from Citi, for all 3 of their cards. DC, Simplicity and Citi rewards. All with set 17.99 APR. Clearly they want me to apply lol. Just not sure which would be the best card to go for out of those 3 and if i should go for it now or wait? And if i go for it now, is it best to use the mailing code that i received when i apply? You all have been so very helpful in making my decision to go for it and I thank you!
