***UPDATE*** I went and did some shopping at Walmart and decided to apply... I was approved!! I'll be posting more details and in the "Approvals" section. Thanks for the feedback everyone!
I've been denied by Walmart twice in the last two years, with the most recent denial being just over a month ago. Since then, my credit score has gone up slightly (CK TU 650), and I've had two new accounts reported on all CBRs. I'm waiting on one more to report in a few days.
The last time I applied for Walmart (online), I was unable to recon and the representative said they are unable to override an online credit application. Would I stand a better chance at being approved in store, and should I wait for my last new account to report? Also, do they have more of an ability to push an application through in store if denied?

Ironically I was also denied twice online and approved via a verification call after applying in the store - for their Dual Card for $500. I then called Credit Solutions and had it bumped to $10k in a single call.
That being said, there was a bit of time between app #2 and app #3. Synchrony may adjust the CL, but doesn't usually overturn a denial.
Ask yourself what it is that is special about the Walmart card. The Walmart MC is not even my go-to card anymore. (the Sams MC probably gets my most attnbetion because of the 5% on gas and 3% on dining and travel)

Thanks for the info! I've been trying to get a Walmart card for a few years now due to how often I shop there. They also seem to have decent financing options, along with a free Fico score (which is hard to fund unless approved for a prime card). While rebuilding my credit I only want to apply for credit that I will use often, and will grow with me.

For me it's the Daily TU Fico (shhhhhh), 0% financing on everything... all the time, Extra cash free for 7 weeks when needed.

It's kinda backwards, but if Capital One will allow additional deposits to your secured cards, you could increase the amount deposited, thus increasing the credit line.
If you are shopping at a store that offers a SCT, accepting those cards might be a nice way of demonstrating responsibility handling credit so that you can get the credit you seek.
I was denied a Walmart and Amazon store card when Tu score was around 580 in November . Last Sunday my Tu score was 635 and was approved the following cards:
Walmart $300
oldnavy $300
Gap $200
amazon $800
paypay connect $500
i could not believe it on my tu I have 1 collection and 3 paid judgements.

Neither of my Cap1 cards are secured. As fro SCT cards, that's how I got my VS card. There weren't many store cards I could see myself using often besides VS. Other than my credit cards, I also have 5 student loans from 2012 that have 100% on-time payment history. I think what's hurting me with Walmart are two collection accounts from 2014.
i too want to go apply for a wal mart card. from credit karma, my TU score is 621 and i have 14 inquiries 10 are over a year old. and 2 collections ( Loan and Rent) what do you think? shiuld i try my luck. i recently was aproved for smart connect from paypal..

Applying could go either way, but since you were approved for Smart Connect, and not their Paypal MC, one could easily surmise that you'd only get the walmart store card, if anything. If you can hold off a for a few months, Synchrony will see a track record with how you use the Paypal Smart Connect account.
