I'm in the early stage stage of my rebuild and I have opened a few new accounts in order to start buiilding a responsible paying history. Before I realized that I could get in with Navy I opened a Open Sky secured card with a line of $400. Tonight I was approved for the NFCU card with a deposit of $500. I really would prefer to keep the Navy card and get rid of the Open Sky card to get my money back. Is this a good idea? I just received the Open Sky card in the mail like 2 days ago and have charged lunch once and nothing else. Should I pay it and close it since I probably won't even use it anymore once I receive my Navy card or should I try to keep it open longer? What are your thoughts? Thank!
Depends does your particular Opensky have an annual fee? If so do you mind paying it until your scores go up? If those are the only two accounts that you have I would keep both for now.
1. Yes, Close open sky.
2. What is your EQ and TU score? did you apply for unsecured with navy before the secured?
Scores are in the high 500's and yes I applied for cash rewards first and was denied.
They are not. I have several accounts but have just been through a divorce which lead to several late payments on cards and c/o's. I've already settled all of the charge off's and I'm now current on all of my cards. I recently received credit with Credit One, First Premier, Open Sky, and now Navy. I think I'll close the Open Sky to get my money back and keep the Credit One and First Premier until the AF comes around next year and by that time hopefully Navy will be unsecured.
