It took me years to make enough mistakes and recover enough to get anything with Amex, and last month I was approved for a Delta Gold Amex. It came with a low SL of $1k, but the lowest offered APR, so I didn't feel too badly about the approval. EX score was 633 on the approval.
About a month later, I've met the bonus requirements, received the Delta Skymiles bonus, and went looking for my next bonus. I'd like to get into Chase UR, but being way over 5/24, I opted for starting on some Amex MR points. I apped for the AMEX Everyday card, and was declined with an EX of 634. Reasons listed were everything under the sun: too many accounts, too many inquiries, too high revolving balances, too many unpaid balances.
From what I've read, the EveryDay and Delta Gold have very similar underwriting criteria. With my relatively low SL on the Delta card, I imagined an approval for the ED would be marginal, but I was still a bit disappointed by the denial. The interesting point is that I was approved for a very similar card instantly, and declined instantly for the ED.
Has anyone had any luck/have any suggestions about getting your second Amex after a somewhat borderline approval on your first? At this point, I'm going to wait at least 90-180 days before I try anything else. I'll want to be a little better prepared next time.
From what I understand, If you were just recently approved for a Credit Card from Amex, they don't linke to approve for another for a bit....you can get a charge card.
I always thought they handled them separately, but even with a pre-approval sitting in my account for a Premier Rewards Gold, the application gets deleted. It doesn't even show that I applied on the application portal. I did apply for a business Green card a few weeks ago, but I thought they'd handle business vs personal charge cards differently.
I called the recon line, and the guy said I had too many applications recently. I had the approval for my Delta card, a denial for the Blue card the same day/day after my Delta card, and a denial for the Business Green card. Either this is too many applications for them total for the past 30 days, or *any* denial is a denial and you have to wait 30 days. I asked the representative how long I have to wait before re-applying, since it says I'm pre-approved (not pre-qualified, but pre-approved), and he said to try again "in a few months" but wouldn't be more specific.
I'm hoping to get the PRG or the ED soon, since I have a lot of business travel in the next few months, and the bonus will be super easy.
