Give your childs profile some time and do they really need 50k+ in credit at 18/19 also alot of these cards were obtained recently from reading approval posts? If I was a bank and saw a college student and that college student had 50k in CC available to them and probably min income other that how you help him/her out I would tend to decline it as well. You child just in my honest opinion has many many card already and credit profile will be more robust than 99.9% of student now or by the time he/she graduates.
Just my 2 cents. Chase is trying to be responsible in lending and as other reader stated default rates are rising across the board for every lender, why even with a good but young profile put themselves out on more of a limb when once again adequate credit IMO has been given to someone with limited means personally.
Anyways just my 2 cents.
This is not about obtaining credit, it is about building relationship. Chase was the 2nd bank that we applied. We had 2-year of credit history (as AU), 780 FICO. First card having $3,500 CL. And Chase would not consider. Chase was given a chance for a relationship. Even a $500 CL would be just fine. But....
I've seen something like this before. I had quite a bit assets at Fidelity. I had to pay the commission each time I made a trade. But Fidelity is giving away more than 50,000 airline points to attract new $$$. Why they just want to spend the $$ to attract new customers and ignore existing customers. So I left them and have not returned.
IMO, it is just a bad business model to give away $$$ to attract new business.....
